Tourrettes-sur-Loup is a medieval village perched on top of a rocky outcrop, 10 Km from the Mediterranean, west of Nice and close to Saint-Paul (de Vence).
The village (4,000 inhabitants) is renowned for its unique site at 340m which has drawn, since the beginning of the 20th century, numerous artists, movie-makers, painters and musicians.
This love of art translates into varied events, exhibitions and concerts.
Tourrettes-sur-Loup Chorus (CTSL), composed of 50 amateur choristers and conducted since 1995 by Jacques Maes, singing teacher and professional Choir Master, presents a diversified repertory from classical to contemporary, French and foreign pieces.
It regularly participates in village events: Christmas concerts, traditional Violet festival, Summer concert and other celebrations.
Each new season provides the opportunity to present an important piece. To date, the following have been sung: Bach Magnificat, Vivaldi Magnificat, Purcell opera Dido and Aneas, Handel Messiah as well as a Mozart “imagined Mass”. The Chorus has benefited, on various occasions, from the accompaniment by the Nice Philharmonic Chamber Orchestra, conducted by Jacques-Francis Manzone.
Handel oratorio Jephtha, for soloists, choir and orchestra, has been performed 3 times in 2007: twice with the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sergio Monterisi and once with a “baroque ensemble” conducted by Jacques Maes.
In 2008, Beethoven 9th Symphony (Ode to Joy) was sung, with the Opera Chorus and the Nice Vocal Ensemble, and the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sergio Monterisi, for the “Festival Antibes Generation Virtuoses”.
In June 2009, Carl Orff Carmina Burana was sung, with the Opera Chorus and the Nice Vocal Ensemble, and the Nice Philharmonic Orchestra, conducted by Sergio Monterisi, for the “Festival Antibes Generation Virtuoses”.
CTSL appears for numerous concerts in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur (PACA) Region as well as abroad: Belgium, Italy, Poland and Portugal (with the three last countries exchanges have already occurred). In 2010, the Choir went to Germany in April, it will go to Italy in September.
The in depth exchange policy is actively developed by the Administrative Committee.
In-coming singers, beginners or confirmed, are welcome within the needs of each section and with the Choir Master’s agreement. We are currently seeking Tenors and Basses...
The Chorus benefits from the support of Tourrettes-sur-Loup Municipality, Alpes-Maritimes General Council and PACA Region.
